Everyone can paint, so do you!

-

As someone who’s spent 23+ years transforming homes with a brush in hand, I’ll let you in on a secret: painting isn’t rocket science. In fact, it’s one of the most rewarding home improvements you can tackle yourself. Think about it – what other project lets you completely change a room in a single weekend?

I remember my first painting job. My hands were shaking as I cut in around the ceiling, worrying I’d make a mess. But here’s what I learned: paint is forgiving. If you make a mistake, you can simply wipe it away while it’s wet or paint over it when it’s dry.

Start with the right tools. You don’t need everything from the hardware store, but don’t skimp on quality. Get yourself a good 2½-inch angled brush for cutting in corners, a sturdy roller with two covers, and a roller extension pole to save your back. Trust me, your shoulders will thank you later.

Before you open that paint can, take time to prep your space.

Lay down canvas drop cloths (forget those flimsy plastic ones), remove switch plates, and patch any holes. Yes, it feels like you’re not making progress, but good prep work is like building a solid foundation – everything else will turn out better.

Here’s a tip most pros won’t tell you:

paint one wall at a time, and work from top to bottom. Roll in a W pattern, then fill it in. This keeps your wet edge alive and prevents those ugly lap marks that scream “amateur job!”

Remember to take breaks and step back now and then. It’s easy to get caught up in the details, but sometimes you need to see the bigger picture. And don’t panic if the first coat looks spotty – that’s normal. Most rooms need two coats for that perfect finish.

You’ve got this! The worst that can happen is you need to try again. And the best? You’ll save a bundle and feel proud every time you walk into that room. So grab that brush and get started – your walls are waiting!

Remember: I’m here for you if you don’t want to tackle that paint job yourself. Just give me a call!
